poem Lili T

There's a poem I really like it's called TELL ME TIGER after William Blake by Clare Bevan.

    Tell me tiger,
   What became
  Of your strips as bright
 As a jungle flame?

 What became of
 Your glittering eyes
 Sharp as star
 In the jungle shies?

 What became of'
 Your flickering tail
 Curved and coiled
 As a jungle trial?

What became of
Your fiery heart
When the jungle patterns
Ripped apart?

Fire

                                                                 By: Abraham F.
                                                                      FIRE
Fire is warm .Fire is hot.
                                                             Burns though paper and wood.
This poem was supposed to be a  shapes poem but I could not
make it into fire shape. I didn't like my own poem.

THREE O'CLOCK

THREE O'CLOCK

I got the job as ringer-
DING-DONG--DING-DONG--DING-DONG.
I thought that meant I'd pull the rope -
I--OUCH-OUCH-OUCH---was wrong.

This poem was written by Shel Silverstein. This poem is a funny poem. The first time I read it I did not under stood it but then i read it again I thought is was pretty funny. I like the way that Shel Silverstein writes his poems.

About Poetry

I really liked the Shapes Poetry, because I think It's really creative and how would a person come up with that. I think It's impossible to try and write the things in a airplane or anything else, but it is impossible. If I tried doing the airplane I would mess up so many times.

A girl

           Author: Abraham F.
A Girl
                                                                         A girl,
                                                                         broke my heart.

This is a 5? poem. I like this poem because I just  wrote what is my

my poem Lili T

Music,
it's something that you hear,
and makes it impossible to stay still.

That is a poem that I Wrote it's called Music of course and the reason that I made this poem is because I love music, music is my life. This is a definition poem, I like definition poems cause I like thing that rhyme.

Hug O' War - Amanda

Shel Silverstein wrote a book called Where The Sidewalk Ends. This book has a bunch of great poems. One of my favorite poems in this book is called Hug O' War. I really liked this poem because its rhymes and i like the poems that rhyme.

Hug O' War

I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war.
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

My poem on 5?s By: Maritza

Lupita,
Ate a cookie,
At lunch,
At school,
Because she was hungry.
This type of poem is a 5?s poem. I like this poem because it is easy and it is fun. It is easy because all you do is wright about some thing or someone, then you make the rest up with the questions. Who?, What?, When?, Were?, and Why?.

Flowers,
Bloom,
In evening noon.
Then they perish,
Very soon.

I like this poem because I tried pretty hard to make it and it wasn't that bad. This kind of poem is a definition poem and I really like this kind of poem because it rhymes and its short.

Spelling Bee
I got stung by a bee
I won't tell you where.
I got stung by a bee
I was just lying' there,
And it tattooed a message
I can't let you see

POEMS By; Maritza

We are starting a new unit in Language Arts "poetry". I am kind of happy and kind of mad because I like poetry but I don't like writing poems cause it is hard to find out words that rhyme and that go with the subject. I think I will like this unit it sounds fun and it sounds easier than reading a book . What I like about poetry is that it rhymes, it has lessons and the author explains how he\ she feels. I like to give poems to my family like on a birthday or on a holiday or just for fun. I like to write poems and keep them to myself. I hope that I will like it!!!! Maritza.

starting poetry Lili T

We are starting a new unit in L.A. class, poetry.  I like poems. My favorite poem writer is Dr. Seuss. I love his book, GREEN EGGS AND HAM. Classic.  I'm looking forward to making our own poems, I like making my own poems cause it's like the only way to get everything out of me like anger, sadness, and more. I really like funny poems they make me feel even more happy than I already am.  I don't really like sad poems they make me feel sad.  Poems can tell so much about someone. Poems are cool.

about poetry

I don't really like poetry. I'm okay reading it because it can be funny and really emotional but writing it....no. I have written poetry before but that was like 3 years ago. I just can't come up with any good poems or stuff to rhyme it with. The only author for poetry that I know for sure is Dr. Seuss. There was this one kid book that I really liked that was full of different poems but I cant remember the titles or the authors. What I know about poetry is that they have different formats...basically writing made into a picture. They usually rhyme and some have a lot of emotion to it or are really funny. I'm not that excited about writing it in my language arts class for our new unit just because I know I'll be terrible at writing them.

Poems By: Art

                                                                         Poems
                                    By:Art

I think poems are a form for people to express their feelings and what they feel. This way people can become famous artist.  Poems can be about love, anger, hate, happiness, or even stupid stuff. Poems rhyme most of the time but they do not always have to rhyme. Rapping is like poems but different in a way  they both sometimes have to rhyme but rapping is mostly insulting not like poems are mostly love that's most of the difference. Some famous poem writers are Dr. Seuss and some famous rappers are Emenim and Lil Wayne. Thats what I think poems are.

poems

In class we are starting a new unit, the unit is poetry. I like reading poetry. I mostly like to read funny, scary, and rhyming poems. I do not like writing poems. I think that writing rhyming poems are the hardest to write because you have to find words that rhyme. The other types are easier to write because some you write a poem of how you feel.  That is what i think of poems.

Marco
I really like that we're going to do poetry, because whenever I read a poem, a really sad depressed way sometimes I feel the same as the people who wrote it. I'm really excited I guess cause were going to be learning more and more about poetry.  I think it's going to teach us more of our writing and rhyming, and all of that stuff  too. But actually  writing our poetry is going  to be easier and easier when we get used to it.  Poetry can be funny, sad, depressing, confusing, but it doesn't matter what it is.

Angie

Poetry. Amanda

I think poetry would be fun. I like the rhyming words kinda thing. I think I'm gonna like poetry. I would really like making my own poems. I just hate how I can't think of words to write in a poem. I also like how poems can be short. We don't have to write a whole big thing instead I could probably just write 5 words for the poem. Thats what I think/like about poetry.

I just got done reading El Cayo.  It was a good book. It was about a black man  and a white kid who get lost at this one island.  This was happening during world war 2 when Germany wanted to take over Holand. I would recommend this book because it has a lot of adventure.  The theme i thought was important was racism because it was about our topic. Jesus

El cayo

I am reading the book El Cayo by Theodore Taylor. We are reading this book in class because is part of our unit. The main characters are Timothy, Phillip and  Stew Cat. This book is happening in a island. The problem is that they are in a island and Phillip can't see and he is with Timothy and he is black but they get along. They want to get save but where they are no air-planes pass by there.  They learn how to live there and it has been like 2 or 3 month's. When they're living there, there was a hurricane and one of the main character dies that is Timothy. Phillip is by his self in the island with Stew Cat.  By Ana

El Cayo 2 Amanda

We finished reading El Cayo by Theodore Taylor this week. After reading it I think this book was good.  Something I would change about this book is that Timothy wouldn't have died. So Philip wouldn't be by himself. I thought the ending was good because they ended up saving Phillip. The theme that I thought was important to the book was relationships because Phillip and Timothy had to learn how to become good friends, so they could help each other to survive.  I would recommend this book because it was really interesting.
We finished reading El Cayo by Theodore Taylor in class this week.  This book was good because it was in an island and they were stuck.  I would change that they got saved earlier so that Timothy could have got saved and been rewarded by helping Phillip.  The theme that is most important to me was relationships because Timothy had to get along with Phillip.  I would recommend this book because it's interesting.

el cayo

We finished reading El Cayo  by Theodore Taylor in class this week. After reading I think that this book was a good book. I would not change a thing about this book. I would read other books by this author. The theme that I thought was most  important to the book was relationships because without  relationships the characters would not be able to live with each other and understand each other. I would recommend this book because it was a very descriptive book.

El Cayo by:Yecenia

We finished reading El Cayo by Theodore Taylor in class this week. After reading the book I think this book was pretty good. The only thing I would change would have to be the end. I think it would be better if the cat was the only person that survived.  I don't think I would read any more of his books just because they're not what I would typically read. The theme that I think suits this book would have to be relationships just because they had to work together to survive in the island. Philip had to learn not to be racist and judging people by skin color. I  recommend this book to anyone who's against racism.

We finished reading the book El Cayo by Theodore Taylor in class this week. After reading this book I think it was a pretty good book. I wouldn't change anything about it because I liked how the author made it. I would probably read another book by this author for a read aloud in class. The theme that  I thought was most important to the book was, relationships because Phillip and Timothy learned how to get along. By helping each other like when Timothy helps Phillip because he is blind. I would recommend this book because it tells you how to not be racist and it tells you that being a different color doesn't mean to be racist.

EL CAYO

We are reading El Cayo by Theodore Taylor. Its a Spanish book it means a very small island. We're reading this book because of our unit about racism and friendship.  The MAIN CHARACTERS are Phillip an 11 year old American boy, Timothy a tall, very old, African American and Stew Cat a black and gray cat. SETTING is in the island. PROBLEM Timothy, Phillip and Stew Cat are stranded in the island with limited food and water. EVENTS world war 2 is started and Phillip's mom wants to go live with her parents till the war ends. The next day they got in the boat they got bombed and Phillip got separated  from his mom and he got hit on the head very bad. He ended up with a African American stranger and turned blind cause of the hit on his head. I like the book so far it seems long cause we read it slow a chapter a day. I would recommended to people that like strange books about the war.                  LILI T.

Habia una vez una Quinceanera

I have finished reading the book Habia una vez una QuinceaƱera by Julia Alvarez. After reading the book I think it is very good book to people who what to learn about the QuinceaƱera.  I will read other books from this author. In my opinion this book is a good example of Multicultural Literature because it has all  the parts that it needs and it talks about a true Latino event. I recommend my book to people who will like to learn about QuinceaƱera.  Ana

The Circuit

I have finished reading the book The Circuit.  I thought it was a good book for the theme of multicultural literature because it talks about why a Mexican comes to the U.S so they can find a job and for the kids so they can go to school. Then the immigration comes  to his school if you want to know  want happens next then you will have to read it. Jesus

El Cayo By:Yecenia

Our language arts class is reading a book called El Cayo. We're reading it because it goes with our new theme about stereotypes and racism. The main characters are Philip and Timothy. Philip is a young white kid and Timothy is an old African-american man. It takes place on a boat and on a mysterious island. The problem is that their boat sank and Timothy and Philip got separated from the group and ended up on a stranded island. An important event that happened so far in the book was when their boat sank and another event was when they were on the raft and Philip became blind. I kind of like this book but since its in Spanish its a bit harder for me. I would recommend this book to people who are not racist and have an  interest in World War 2.

Monday, November 5, 2012

We are reading EL Cayo in class because Mrs.K is making us read it. The main characters are Timothy and Phillip. They are in a little island, trying to survive and they hope some one comes to save them. They got to the island because Phillip's mom wanted to get out of the Curacao and wanted to go to the US. But some one bombed the boat that they were in. Then Phillip got hit in the head so Timothy helped him and took him on to a big piece of wood. Then they floated in the water for days then they got to a little island. That is how they got to the little island. I  like this book because it is very interesting  and because it deals with relationships and racism.  I would recommend this book to people who live or lived on a island.

The Tequila Worm

I have finished reading the book The Tequila Worm
                                                                      By:Viola Canales
I think this book is a great book because this can happen to people in real life and its about a girl that want's to go to a school that is far away from her house so she gets her friend to help convince her parents to let her go. But when she goes to school she realizes she misses her parents but doesn't admit it.
In my opinion this is a great example of multicultural literature because she talks about the religion in the book and she shows examples in how they did there religion and how they practice it.
I would recommend this book to my parents or my friends because its a very interesting book of a girls life and it could show them how she does in her challenges.
Pacific Crossing
By: Gary Soto
After reading this book I think it was a pretty decent book because it has martial arts in the book. In my opinion my book is a good example of multicultural literature because it talks about the Mexican culture. I do not recommend my book because it talks more about the Japanese culture than the Mexican culture.

Parrot in the Oven 2 Amanda

I have finished reading the book Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez. After reading this book I think it was very good. I think it was a good book because it gave really good details. It was about the life of a Hispanic teenage boy. In my opinion my book is a good example of multicultural literature because it gave good facts about the Mexican culture. I recommend my book because its very interesting.

Crazy Loco

I just finished reading Crazy Loco by David Rice. I kinda liked this book. Its not the best book I have read but its not the worst. Its in between. There are other short stories in this book, a total of 9.  Since there are different stories, the end isn't the best and some are a bit confusing. But its still pretty good. I don't know if I'll read other books by this author, depends if  I find them worthy to read or interesting. This book is a good example of multicultural literature because it talks about the culture, it has the parts of a multicultural book. I recommend this book  because its still a pretty good book.

Esperanza Rising 2

I finished the book Ezperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. After reading this book I think it is a awesome book.  I liked the end it was a happy ending, the end was how it was supposed to happen at the beginning.  In my opinion I think it is a good multiculural literature book because it shows how people suffer working in fields. I would recommend this book because it is really interesting.

Pacific Crossing

 Pacific Crossing
By: Gary Soto
I am reading the book Pacific Crossing by Gary Soto. I choose this book because it was the only book left that looked good. I am reading this book because my teacher is teaching us about multicultural literature. The main characters are Lincoln and Tony those are the only main characters I know because I am not that far in the book. It takes place in Japan. Tony and Lincoln are exchange students for six weeks.  I hope my book has an interesting ending.

Habia una vez una quinceaƱera

I am reading the book Habia una vez una quinceaƱera by Julia Alvarez. I chose this book because I like to read books that are by Julia Alvarez. I'm reading this book because it is an example of multicultural literature and we are studying about that in class. This book is about this woman that interviews girls that have had their quince or are going to or did not have their quince. She writes about the quinces to see if they're different from the ones that have money.

Esperanza Rising

I am reading Esperanza Rising by Pam MuƱoz Ryan, because Mrs. Kohtala asked me to for our multicultural literature unit. I am in the middle of the book and I like it. It is about a girl called Esperanza. Her dad was the owner of a ranch of grapes, El Rancho De Las Rosas in Aguascalientes, Mexico. But one night he got killed by bandits. Her uncle Luis asks her mother if she wants to marry him but she says no so he burns down their house. They have no money so they flee to Arvin, California to work. But her mother gets a really dangerous disease and she can die from it, so Esperanza has to work to buy her mom's medicine. If you want to know if she dies then read it.

Return To Sender

Hi! my name is Lili. I'm reading Return To Sender by Julia Alvarez. I'm reading this book because Mrs. Kohtala told us to read a book about multicultural literature for Hispanic Heritage month. I choose this book because the cover looked cool. Here is a little summary about the book: Main Characters: Tyler and Mari setting: In Tyler's house, farm, and in Mari's house Problem: Mari and his uncles and dad are Mexicans without papers Mari's sisters (Ofie and Luby) were born in America so they're safe but, if other people find out that Mari and her uncles, and dad don't have papers they will get sent back to Mexico but if they do what will happen to Ofie and Luby? Mari's mom went to Mexico she was coming back but it's been a year now and nobody knows anything about her. Will she come back? Events:Tyler lives on a farm. This summer was not a real good one for Tyler. His grandpa died and his dad got in an accident, so he can't milk the cows because he needs to heal. So he had to hire Mexicans. One of Mari's uncles went to a party with Ben, Tyler's older brother and Ben got stopped for speeding and Mari's uncle got nervous and ran and migration got him and locked him up. I really like it so far, because it's a book with feeling and sadness and action. That is my kind of a book. I recommend it to people who want a book full of sadness, action and feeling.

Antes de ser Libres

I am reading the book Antes De Ser Libres by Julia Alvarez. I choose this book because the title and the cover looked interesting to me. The main character so far is Anita. Anita and her family are in Republica Dominicana in their home. Most of her family moved to the United States except her parents and her brother and sister. After they were alone the SIM came and asked for the Garcia family but they weren't there. The SIM looked in Anita's house but they did not find anything. The SIM stayed in the entrance for the parking lot for two weeks. The SIM left because the Washburn family moved into the house of the Garcia's. I like the book so far because the book is interesting. I would recommend it to people that are from the Republica Dominicana. This is a good example of multicultural literature because it gives true information of the culture. MARCO

The Tequila Worm

The Tequila Worm
 By: Viola Canales
I am reading this book because Mrs.Kohtala told us we have to read this book because we are studying multicultural literature.  I chose this book because the cover looked interesting because it shows a lot of cool looking things on the cover.  This book starts of in Mc Alen, Texas with a girl named Sofia and her friend Berta.  There is a problem because Sofia wants to go to a school called Saint Luke's Episcopal School in Austin.   Some of the events on this book are when Sofia and Berta get in a fight over a chocolate or when Sofia and Berta go to the movies with their parents and Berta is acting mature while Sofia acts like a little kid.  I like this book because it is very interesting learning about Sofia's life while she grows up with her challenges.  I would recommend this book to my friends or my parents.

The Circuit

I am reading a book in Miss. Larson's class named The Circuit. The author of the book is Francisco Jimenez. It is about a Mexican kid and his family that moved to California to find a job so they can support their family. I like the book because I am Mexican. And the book is part of multicultural literature.   Jesus

Crazy Loco

Right now I just finished reading a book called Crazy Loco by David Rice. It was for my language arts class about our multicultural unit. I wasn't to fond of the idea of reading this book, but it was more interesting than the other books that were there. I thought it was a book about a dog at first since there was a dog on the front cover. But the mini summary at the beginning of the book was talking about a dog then about a girl in high school and then about two guys helping at a church. It got me quite confused. After a few chapters I understood that this book was about a lot of stories put together. (Each chapter was a different story.) I kinda liked this book. Each story had a problem and a some what solution. Each one had a meaning. Like this one story talked about a girl and her aunt, they were really close and the aunt gave the girl a plane ticket to travel anywhere she wants to go. Her parents didn't agree but in the end it had an emotional ending. Your gonna have to read this book to find out the end of this mini story and the other stories too. There are 9 mini stories in this book. Crazy Loco is a mini story in there. I recommend this book, its pretty good and it has some Spanish words in there by the way. Yecenia

Parrot in the Oven.

I am reading the book Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez. I am reading this book for our multicultural literature unit in my language arts class. So far my book is about a boy named Manuel Hernandez and his brother Bernardo or Nardo. Its summer and Nardo was looking for jobs. First he was a dishwasher then a busboy, then a parking attendant, then he worked at a hamburger stand. He got fired from all of them. School was about to start and Manuel needs money for clothes and school supplies. So he thought of an idea, to go work on the field and pick some chili peppers. Manuel asked his brother if he would go with him and he said yes. They were working and then white vans stopped by the fields. Then people started running. The immigration police had come. Some of the workers got caught and some didn't. That's what's going on so far in my book. So far I like the book. I recommend this book for people who are interested in the Hispanic culture or are part of the Hispanic culture. Amanda.
I am reading Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez. The main characters are Francisco, Roberto, Trampita and Torito. An event is when Francisco and his brother imigrated to California. Another event is when they're in school and the border patrol comes and takes them to they're home in Mexico. I like the book because it tells you how francisco imigrated and all he went through. I would recommend this book because its a pretty good story.

Debate over violence in games

In El Dador (The Giver) Jonas becomes very upset in chapter 17 when he realizes that his friends are playing a 'war' game.  He had just experienced a memory of true war, something his friends do not understand, so watching them play a game about war as if it was fun was very upseting to him.  Our class is going to have a debate about the idea of violence in games.  Do violent games cause violence or are they just games?
Click on the link below to see the rubric (in Spanish) and the links to the useful websites to help us build our arguments.
