Esperanza Rising
I am reading Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan, because Mrs. Kohtala asked me to for our multicultural literature unit. I am in the middle of the book and I like it. It is about a girl called Esperanza. Her dad was the owner of a ranch of grapes, El Rancho De Las Rosas in Aguascalientes, Mexico. But one night he got killed by bandits. Her uncle Luis asks her mother if she wants to marry him but she says no so he burns down their house. They have no money so they flee to Arvin, California to work. But her mother gets a really dangerous disease and she can die from it, so Esperanza has to work to buy her mom's medicine. If you want to know if she dies then read it.
