Parrot in the Oven.
I am reading the book Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez. I am reading this book for our multicultural literature unit in my language arts class. So far my book is about a boy named Manuel Hernandez and his brother Bernardo or Nardo. Its summer and Nardo was looking for jobs. First he was a dishwasher then a busboy, then a parking attendant, then he worked at a hamburger stand. He got fired from all of them. School was about to start and Manuel needs money for clothes and school supplies. So he thought of an idea, to go work on the field and pick some chili peppers. Manuel asked his brother if he would go with him and he said yes. They were working and then white vans stopped by the fields. Then people started running. The immigration police had come. Some of the workers got caught and some didn't.
That's what's going on so far in my book.
So far I like the book. I recommend this book for people who are interested in the Hispanic culture or are part of the Hispanic culture.
Amanda.
