Multicultural Literature

Our first reading unit as a class will be to read multicultural literature.  We will be starting this unit next week.  The students will be responsible for reading one book each that reflects some aspect of multicultural life.
As I mentioned before we are a bilingual class.  Our goal with this unit is to read these books and reflect on their relevance to the students lives and determine, in our opinions, if they are accurate reflections of the multicultural lives that my students live.  Basically we will be multicultural book critics.

We will also read some books as a class through read alouds and reflect on those as well.  The students will be creating posters in Glogster to share with the class that contain all the elements of story structure, characters, setting, plot, problem/conflict, resolution, as well as their critiques of the book.
If we can figure out how to post them on our blog we will definitely share them with you. :)

The majority of the books we will be reading are available in both English and Spanish, and the students will be presenting the books to the class in Spanish meaning their Glogster posters will be in Spanish, but their posts here on Blogspot will always be in English.  If you ever have questions please feel free to ask we will be happy to translate. :)
